Whispering Pines, North Carolina
Betty has been drawing and painting all of her life. Since retiring from corporate life and moving to Whispering Pines 29 years ago, she has made art a full-time commitment. She enjoys watching people, animals, and all of the nature around her. She works from both life and from her own photography, with an art studio that overlooks Spring Valley Lake.
She says that drawing and painting give her a chance to relive her experiences and visions and that artwork is really a form of meditation for her. Her works vary from landscape or floral, to animals and birds, to figurative and portraits. Her primary media are colored pencil and pastel, but she also enjoys watercolor, ink drawing, and scratchboard.
Betty has had her work shown in more than 75 juried exhibitions around the country and online. In 2010, she was awarded signature status in the Colored Pencil Society of America. In 2009, she received an Honorable Mention Award from Artist’s Magazine in their national online competition in the Drawing Category. Betty is an invited member of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC and a member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina. She was a founding member of the Artist League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, NC, where she continues to teach pastel, colored pencil, and ink classes.
