HANNAH COLE BUIE
Rockingham, North Carolina
Hannah Cole Buie was born and raised in Rockingham, North Carolina. She grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Her grandmother played the piano for the silent movies in Richmond County, and her mother played piano “by ear.” Adhering to the family tradition, Hannah plays the piano, the guitar, and she sings. Her mother was also a well- known artist in North and South Carolina, having painted portraits for many prominent families.
Hannah painted with watercolors in high school and college. She received her BFA in art education from UNC-Greensboro and went on to teach art for Marlboro County Schools (in Bennettsville) for several years. After retirement, she pursued painting full time, taking many classes (with her mother) in the United States and abroad.
Hannah has shown her work and won awards in several galleries throughout the area: Myrtle Beach, High Point, Greensboro, Southern Pines, and now, Pinehurst in One of a Kind Gallery. Though she hasn’t won any awards at One of a Kind, she certainly has earned many “oohs” and “ahs” from visitors to the gallery.
Hannah now paints in her studio in her home in Rockingham, where she lives with her husband, Ron, and their two cats. Though most of her work is in oils, she also creates in watercolors and pastels. She considers her painting style to be contemporary impressionism, and she is drawn to bright colors, as evidenced by her work. Her favorite subjects – French landscapes and walkways, still lifes, and interior – are also evident in her work.
