Iconic Quilling is a small business based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and owned by Aaron and Anh. The process of creating the cards begins with Anh designing colored-pencil drawings and gluing rolled strips of paper over them. Anh partners with her artists friend, Nhu, who lives in their home city of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Nhu perfects the design, then hires and trains talented women who roll strips of paper by hand and glue them to Anh’s unique designs to create the quilled cards.
Quilling is thought to have originated in ancient Egypt and to have begun in association with the invention of paper. Quilling, sometimes called “paper filigree,” initially involved the practice of rolling strips of paper around the quill of a bird’s feather, hence the term “quilling.” The artform was popularized during the Renaissance in France and Italy and later in England, when monks and nuns used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items.
Hopefully, these beautifully quilled cards will bring a smile to your face and a lift to your spirits.
