PAMELA POWERS JANUARY
Southern Pines, North Carolina
Pamela Powers January was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1959, and moved with her family to Scarsdale, New York in 1966. Throughout high school, Pamela studied visual art and won several notable awards. She graduated from Washington University in 1981 with her BFA in Commercial Illustration. While in college, she created calendar art for Hammermill Paper Company and illustrations for the St. Louis Zoo Souvenir Program. Pamela also interned for Compton Advertising Agency in New York City.
Upon graduation, Pamela began her career in mid-town Manhattan working for the American Kennel Gazette, a monthly magazine published by the American Kennel Club. As the Assistant Art Director, she assisted with page layout and design and created illustrations of dogs for monthly articles and columns. While working for the AKC, Pamela was commissioned by Hills Pet Products to create a series of 12 artworks, entitled The Performance Art Series. The paintings were published as limited-edition prints, signed by the artist, and sold to the public with sales revenue benefitting the newly established AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City.
Currently, Pamela lives in North Carolina, where she continues to create artwork of cats, dogs, horses, and wildlife. She has been a contributor to Pinestraw Magazine and has also donated artwork to Carolina Tiger Rescue to benefit their fundraising efforts. Her work can be viewed on Instagram at Just Ruff’s Pet Portraits.
