Rich Flanegan was born in Uniontown, PA, but lived most of his life at the Jersey Shore, specifically in Cape May, NJ. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in art. Rich has been painting all of his life, working mainly in oils and pastels. He is a versatile painter, having used many media and tackling many subjects, but his favorite – and most successful paintings – have been those focusing on landscapes and seascapes. His goal is to capture a moment in time: a sky, a wave, a shadow, etc. His success in reaching this goal is evident in his beautiful paintings hanging in One of a Kind Gallery.
Rich has taught student s of all ages, many of whom have gone on to be award-winning artists. For over 20 years, prior to moving to Pinehurst in 2017, Rich and his wife, Diane, used their Victorian home in Cape May as a gallery, frame shop and classroom. His work was also carried in several other area galleries.
After his move to Moore County, Rich won the 2017 and 2019 Lee Barrett People’s Choice Awards and the 2019 First Place Award I painting at the Arts Council of Moore County’s annual Fine Arts Festival. Part of that painting is shown with his picture above.
